There are several different rheumatic diseases that affect and manifest on the hand. Usually changes appear on the joints of the hand and fingers. These changes occur in conjunction with a primary chronic polyarthritis as well as with other rheumatic diseases. A cooperation on a disciplinary basis from rheumatism specialists from internal medicine, radiologists and physiotherapists are important constituents for a successful therapy. The surgical interventions are employed when pharmacological treatments are inadequate to stop the degenerative changes in the hand joints. They refer to the surgical removal of the inflammatory changes on tendons and joints, the insert of joint protheses and the partial or complete stiffening of the joints ( look also under treatment of arthrosis). We are a specialized Department of Handsurgery and Plastic Surgery in Berlin providing all conservative and surgical treatment options for the rheumatic hand.
