The Dupuytren’s contracture leads to a nodule (lump) formation on the palmar aponeurose (the connective tissue between the skin and the deeper structures of the palm ) and is genetic predisposed. In earlier times Diabetes and Alcohol were considered as trigger factors. Today though the responsible genes have been identified. In advanced cases the fingers can be completely curled (flexed)toward the palm of the hand. The finger motion and function can be restored through a surgically fasciotomy (removal of the nodules).
