For the treatment of these areas the plastic aesthetic surgeon requires an pronounced ability to visualize so he can understand the patient’s wishes and goals and then fulfill them through his surgical abilities since an operation is not characterized as successful when only the surgeon is satisfied with the result and his work. Even during body- contouring, the patient’s wishes and expectations should be taken into consideration and included in the treatment plan. The aesthetic surgeon, falsely characterized as cosmetic surgeon, should with intuition and sensitivity perceive the patient’s wishes, define together with the patient the goals of the operation and point out and set the operation limitations and possibilities. The desired effect can only in this manner, in the context of a trustful patient-doctor relationship, be achieved. The term cosmetic or beauty surgery should not be confused with the term aesthetic surgery. Beauty , lies in the eyes of the beholder and is therefore subjective. Aesthetic surgery consists a brighter and specific field of Plastic Surgery and represents an important quality criterion of the plastic-aesthetic surgeon. It is always important to verify whether the plastic surgeon is a recognized member of the German Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (DGPRÄC).
